Imagine: you become ill and are unable to work for an extended period. What happens then?
Your income does not stop immediately, but it does decrease. In the first year, you usually still receive 100% of your salary. However, if you are still ill after a year, this often drops to only 70%. That might not sound too bad, but in practice, it means you could suddenly have €900 to €1,000 less to spend per month. This can have significant consequences, such as making it more difficult to pay your rent or mortgage.
Many people are affected by this. In the Netherlands, there are currently around 820,000 people who can no longer work (fully) due to illness. Young people, in particular, are increasingly facing long-term absence. Nearly 32,000 people under the age of 27 are long-term ill. In the 27 to 45 age group, this involves 234,000 people. Often, these involve psychological complaints such as burnout or depression.
Why we discuss this with you: During our mortgage consultations, we believe it is important to address this topic. Not to frighten you, but to ensure you are well-informed.
Because your income is the foundation of everything. If something happens to it, you need to know where you stand:
How much coverage is provided through your employer?
What can you expect from the government?
Which schemes are available to you?
What can you do? We help you gain insight into this with clear scenarios. This allows you to see the impact on your situation immediately. We also provide a form that makes it easy to check what your employer has arranged. Small spoiler: many employers have not arranged an additional safety net.
Let us find out for you!
Would you like to know your financial standing in the unfortunate event of illness? Please let us know, and we will review it together during our meeting.
